I'm told in cambridge, the parking folks are generally willing to look the other way if you're having a party and you give them advanced notice. Does Somerville have a similar policy?
Thanks

I have very long hair (hip length).  I've been growing it for 7 years, and am sick of it.  I would like to get my hair cut short, and would like to donate my hair.  My question is, are there any hair-cutting places in the area that might

a) do a good job and
b) might give me a discount for donating my hair?

Money's a bit tight right now (as it is for many, I'm sure) and it would be nice to not spend much on this.

I looked in the old posts under the "hair" tag and didn't find anything that quite answered my question.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Greetings All...

Thanks to everyone who attended last night's entertainment license hearing about the Arts at the Armory.  We appreciated everyone's support of our efforts.

We recognize that lingering and understandable concerns remain about parking and noise.   We are in the process of setting up our Neighborhood Advisory Committee to help us troubleshoot and resolve any outstanding issues.  We plan to reveal the names of the entire committee and how folks can get in touch with us once all the preliminary interviews of folks who were nominated occur.  We are committed to being a good neighbor.

The Armory has a big footprint in a residential area but we are excited about what we can do there.  With your ongoing support, ideas and help, it will be a great place to celebrate arts and culture in Somerville.

For more information about us - check out our website at: http://www.artsatthearmory.org.

Cheers!

In accordance with the City’s Snow Emergency Procedures, Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone has declared a snow emergency for the City of Somerville to go into effect at midnight., Wednesday, January 28th.   During snow emergencies, parking is allowed on the odd-numbered side of the street only (unless otherwise posted).  Cars not moved by 4 a.m. Wednesday morning will be subject to ticketing and towing.  Beginning at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27th, residents unable to find a parking space on the odd-numbered side of the street may park in any municipal or school parking lot for the duration of the emergency.  A list of available city lots and other relevant information may be found on the City’s website at www.somervillema.gov.

The Somerville Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday.

Residents who have not already done so may visit the City’s website, www.somervillema.gov, to view snow emergency procedures, download the snow procedures brochure or sign up for Connect CTY telephone and email alerts and other time sensitive messages from the City.  Residents may also sign up for Connect CTY calls and email by calling 311.

In addition, flashing blue lights installed at 22 key intersections and entryways to the City will be activated immediately after the declaration of a snow emergency, and remain lit for the duration of the snow emergency.  As in years past, prerecorded information is also available on the city’s Information Hotline, 617-628-SNOW.

Hi all,
I know questions about PCP near Davis are coming up all the time, this time I want to ask if someone knows about doctors who
1) are good
2) have evening/weekend hours
3) are near Davis
4) are female.
I'm looking for a new doctor and so far I tried to schedule an appointment with Dr. Fishman, but unfortunately she herself doesn't hold any evening hours, and the latest her nurse practitioners can do a physical exam is 6.15 (and I can't make it back from work till 6.30 at the earliest).
Looks like Dr. Rachel Berger at Harvard Vineyard has evening/weekend hours but I couldn't find any reviews on her. Is anyone seeing her?
I just started a new job and for a number of reasons to take time off right now to see a doctor would be really hard.
I really appreciate your help. Thanks!!
UPD: How about Debra Bershel?? Anyone saw her?

I called 311 this week about Christmas tree disposal.

I haven't seen any trees picked up on our street at all and as time has gone one our sidewalks have 1-2 trees on the curb. The city claims that the tree pickup got delayed because DPW has been busy with snow removal, which makes sense, but also said (despite the forecasted storm this week) that they'd be picking up trees by "the end of the month".

Anyone want to place bets as to which month? July?

But seriously - we're in the Tufts area - have they just not picked up trees anywhere in town,
or is it only our neighborhood that's been long-forgotten?

Sigh. I'm tired of clearing the sidewalk snow with the trees as an extra obstacle.

I am thinking of dumping my gym membership that I do not use enough to justify and am thinking of getting involved in a martial art. I did Tae Kwon Do at a couple different schools many years ago and would like to try something different. I checked the "martial arts" tag and found some nice recommendations for martial arts schools however, they all seem to be $90+ a month plus some had a joining fee. Does anyone have a recommendation, any style, that is closer to $30-$50 a month? I have a car so I am not limited to T access but would like to try to have it reasonably close to where I live (Medford). Am I fated to be disappointed? Thanks

on my daily trek to work i pass the abandoned corner store on college and broadway. as of yesterday the space was being gutted. i asked one of the workers this morning what was going in, he said a dunkin donuts and a convenience store. i guess they're subdividing the space?

i'm glad the storefront won't be empty, but... i don't know what this means for the broken yolk. (nice folks)
