Join canine herbalist Nancy Anderson of Canis major herbals on the 2nd Tuesday of each month as we explore a holistic, herbal model for canine health. We'll start with nutrition and herbs, and apply that knowledge as we examine the different organ systems through the seasons, pulling it all together in a "whole dog" approach.

Oct 9: On the Nature of Canine Health - Exploring the holistic model

Nov 13: The Importance of Nutrition - Understanding nutrition as the foundation of health

Dec 11: Herbs 101 - What, when, why, and how would you use herbs for your dogs’ health issues? The medicinal applications of herbs will be discussed in their many different forms

Jan 8: Elements of Treatment - The Whole Dog: Putting it all together

Through 2013, we'll spend each month traveling through the canine body, aligning the seasons with the organ systems. Specific and common conditions will also be discussed, such as skin issues, Lyme Disease, parasites, anxiety… and more.
The aim is to make this a fun and interactive series (with tons of information flying around)!

Classes are $10 each and start at 7:00pm. Come to all (for a discounted rate) or only one. Arts at the Armory 191 Highland Ave, Somerville

I'm considering a masters' program for marketing or business. In particular, the Emerson Integrated Marketing Communications looks promising. Anyone have an opinion? In particular, HR professionals or hiring managers for senior and director-level marketing and communications types of people?

Forgive this blatant promotional post, but I wanted to let people know about Shulman & Hill, a small tutoring company based in Somerville & Needham. I'm doing some work for them coaching students writing their college application essays but their primary focus is standardized test preparation (AP and SAT) and tutoring (in History, English, Math, and Physics). You can find more at shulmanandhill.com.

They're offering a back-to-school referral bonus special: Refer someone who books 5 sessions, get 1 free for yourself. If you or a friend have a high-school student, check them out. They've got excellent references and highly qualified tutors.

Thanks to all who responded to my original post about discounted Women’s Basics classes at IMPACT Boston. Several people who got in touch with me asked about our Men’s and LGBTQ self-defense classes, so now that they’re on the schedule I wanted to give you the scoop.

Scpheal about IMPACT behind the cut )

Men’s Basics will take place July 8th thru 10th in Malden.

Friday July 8th:    6p-10:00p
Saturday July 9th:    10a-7p
Sunday July 10:     11a-4p

Guys, I bet you’ve thought deeply about what is worth defending and how you might respond to confrontations of different kinds.  You’d be amazed at the variety of opinions and experiences you hear about when you have time to discuss it. The physical techniques are effective for anyone against any aggressor, and it’s fascinating to learn why. Moreover gaining physical skills while also having learned the patterns of escalation will assist your sense of assertiveness and overall confidence.

As always we offer scholarships (a name-your-own-price option) and no-interest payment plans.

LGBTQ men are welcome in the Men’s class, of course, but it looks like our LGBTQ class will be either the weekend of Sept 9-12 or Sept 16-18 and likely at
Fenway Health in Boston.  Send your contact info if you want me to let you know directly when it's finalized.

We’ll also have more
Women's Basics classes, once a month from now through Sept.

If you're interested (or want me to send you a scholarship application,) please email me at registration@impactboston.org, call 781-321-3900, visit
www.impactboston.org, or leave comments!

(will probably x-post to b0st0n)

i have two openings for more riding students! my barn is about fifteen miles north of somerville in north reading, but i can offer transportation from davis square, since that's where i live myself :) we can take one person (any level) at a time in a private lesson, or we could do a double lesson (two people riding together) if one of the people already has a little bit of horse experience. times are fairly negotiable, except that fridays are right out. if you're coming from somerville with me, you should plan on about three hours per lesson including transportation.

my horses are icelandic, which means they they have an additional fast, smooth "soft" gait called the tölt as well as the american-typical walk, trot, and canter. we teach total beginners (including scared beginners) through beginning eventing, and are located right next to the harold parker state forest for trail riding. i'm a massachusetts-licensed instructor, and also a certified instructor at level 1 of centered riding. (centered riding is a mental and physical approach to how to ride that applies across disciplines, so it works for english, western, dressage, jumping, icelandics, everything on a horse :)

ETA (thanks ron!) here is pricing info: the barn charges $25 per rider per lesson (that's for their insurance and the use of their facility.) additionally, i charge $40 for a single rider, $50 for two (the double-lesson pricing is a special i'm running for this summer, usually it's just $40 per rider). transportation's free since i have to get myself there anyway :)
