I tried to find out more information about what is going on with the building where Wicked Good Coffee was next door to the Chinese Restaurant that had the fire. Apparently it has been marked as unsafe for awhile now. There is a development company working there currently gutting it out. I found them online http://www.thornburygroup.com/ and it appears they specialize in luxury condos/condos/construction. Do you guys think they are building condos over there (we dont need them)? I sent an email to the company but I havent heard back.

Yard Waste = regular trash?

After hauling my brown bags of sodden yard waste to the curb last night, having one of them break in the process,  and refilling the two big brown bags, I was sad to look out the window this morning as the trash guys tossed my regular garbage in the truck and then the CLEARLY MARKED bags of waste in after them.  I was not happy.  Called 311 and the very nice woman told me it must have been an error -- typically a separate truck comes around for the recyclable waste.  I asked her to log my call as a complaint in case the DPW can do something to monitor more closely.  I write here to ask you to keep an eye on your yard waste/trash collection too.  If they are throwing everything together where you live, please call 311 and report it.

Shredding/Doc Destruction

Is there a local institution that will do mass document shredding/destruction? My decent credit score has earned me approximately 2 prescreened credit offer letters per postal day for the past few years.

Sooo... a third of the tree behind my apartment has decided to hang out on the back porch and roof for a while. My landlord is also on vacation until Monday the 5th and his phone is off.

I can't open my back door at all but the downstairs neighbor was able to go out and investigate and it seems like mostly (hopefully) cosmetic damage- a few shingles, the gutter and flower pots hung off the side of our railing (which my roomie and I never used). However, this is no small tree and it's on the roof of our kitchen in two places.

What are the legal and safe rights here? I'm sure the landlord will get back to us this evening and fix it tomorrow, we have never had a problem with that at least. If not, should we call a contractor without the owner's consent? There is a possibility that this house-length portion could roll off into the neighbor's house as well. At least we still have teh internets and no rain inside :)

Kundalini?

I think I'm experiencing a Kundalini awakening (sadly, not a Kundera awakening) and I've heard a lot of horror stories about what can happen if you don't know what you're doing. And I don't know what I'm doing. Can someone recommend someone locally who knows lots about this? And maybe a Kundalini yoga class?

If you know a lot about it but don't deal with it professionally, feel free to reply anyway.

We've been looking for someone who sounds like Burt Reynolds for a while now (for a voice part in our upcoming puppet show). Believe it or not, the voice of Burt Reynolds is hard to find.

Question about parking permits, and renting a spot

Hey all,

I may be doing a 3-month sublet (August 1 - Nov 1) in Somerville, on Broadway between Teele and Powderhouse Squares. I know it's a rather odd block of time. Unfortunately, I have out-of-state license plates on my car, and won't be eligible to get a Somerville parking pass. Does anyone know if there are any streets in that area that DON'T require resident permits? Or is all of Somerville permit-only? Unfortunately, I do need my car to get to work (far), so ditching the car isn't an option for me.

If the answer to this question is 'No', does anybody know of a person who is willing to rent out a parking spot to me, for those 3 (odd) months? I've posted an ad on Craigslist, but nothing so far.

I'm getting really desperate, I'm willing to pay quite a decent amount!

farmer's market still open?

I need strawberries and rhubarb for pie for Friday, and had been planning to get them from the farmer's market this afternoon; however, I don't need to tell people what the weather is like.

Are there vendors present still? Has anyone been by recently and can tell me if I will find either of them there if I go by at around 5?

(either that or where there will be a farmer's market tomorrow that maybe I could get to hopefully before tomorrow's inevitable monsoon)
