I'm getting tired of trying to get my hair to take dye properly when doing it myself, and I'm wondering where I can go to get a professional dyejob. I wouldn't be looking for anything too outlandish, so pretty much everywhere is up for consideration. Has to be T (or bus)-accessible, and I'm looking for a place that won't be insanely expensive. I'm not sure if it's the generally accepted price, but a lot of the places I've seen around here have been about 70-80 dollars. If that's the general price, then fine, but if I can find a cheaper place, that would be great. Thanks!

Also- does anyone know of any fancy spa-type places or beauty supply stores in the general Boston area that would have products for sale? I'm mostly looking for fancy nail polish, and most of the nail places that I've seen don't sell the polish they use. Thanks!

I'm thinking of getting a friend a facial for a b-day present.  Any recommendations for a place/person in/around Davis Square that is quality, friendly, won't lecture about skin care and won't try to push unwanted products on clients?

Thanks!

Just wanted to post an update to this: http://community.livejournal.com/davis_square/1323388.html

Metamorphisis is definitely closed and has now re-opened in Dedham. After contacting the owner she replied and explained what happened. She had a bad breakup with a boyfriend...the father manages the building and refused to allow her until at least the end of the month to notify clients with pending appointments, clients in general to explain the move and to remove her stuff. He only gave her 3 days to be out. I feel terrible as this woman is extremely nice and was always good to us when there. She offered us a complete refund of what we have paid and only asked us to wait until the end of July as she has had no income since May. I just wanted to post the story so people didn't think she was some shady business woman who disappeared.

I was wondering if anyone had any more info than what I have found out so far.

The Metamorphisis spa that was upstairs in the building next door to Starbucks is apparently closed according to their site. I was near there recently and I still saw their sign outside. Well I went to make an appt today since I had purchased a pretty expensive package for something and I still have 3 visits left..only to find out they are currently closed and looking for a new location. I sent an email to the contact us address but I was hoping someone could shed some light. Maybe the rent was too high? I wonder what happens to my money :(

Update:

What is your favorite day spa in the general area? Car-required is fine.

Some awesome friends want to give me a gift certificate and asked where it should be for, but I can't really offer a suggestion as I haven't been to many places in the area. Ideally, I'm looking for a place that has both some variety of bodywork as well as facials. Reasonable prices are a bonus, too. (They mentioned Bella Sante in Lexington and on Newbury St, but their prices are astronomical. I wonder if maybe there are places with less ritzy addresses but still great service?)

Thanks!

Does anyone have any experience with the Metamorphosis Aesthetic Trends spa In Davis Square? I'm thinking about going for a facial.

Hi all. I was hoping some people could give me suggestions on a place to go for a pedicure? I've never had one, so have no idea what price range to expect, or how to tell if a place is good or not. I figure word of mouth is the best advertising there is. So, any suggestions? Doesn't have to be in Davis Square, per se, but if it is, that's great. Also, if anyone can tell me what was good/bad about the place they went, that would be helpful.

Thanks so much!

This place looks amazing. I'm thinking of treating my sister (amd myself) to a spa day of decadence before her wedding in June and these place sounds super-girly and fun. The body treatments sound ridiculously yummy and the recent Dig review of their "Chocolate-Dipped Strawberry" mani/pedi made me sinful sweet-tooth ache. Has anyone else in the area tried it yet?

I was thinking of getting my eyebrows waxed. Can anyone reccommend a good salon in Davis for waxes? I've had (mostly) good waxing experiences and would prefer a place with people who really know how to minimize the pain.

I'm looking for a place to get acrylic nails done for $30 or less that is open after 5pm. Any suggestions?

Ok.. so this is completely lame and you will chuckle but laughing is good for the heart.

So I have never had a manicure (am a man..) but I would like to and am wondering about all the nail shops that have cropped up in the square. Are any of those good/better/best? I look in as I walk by and think "hmm... yeah, that looks like a comfortable scene.. (not)" I have memories of some bad Seinfeld episode with Elaine + Frank + feet (I don't recall the details).

Do they use nasty chemicals? (I'll save my questions about waxing until you stop laughing... ;-)

I had one at the one by the McD's over by Diesel and it was the worst I've ever had. Anyone had a really *good* pedicure around here?

Hello! I'm new, just moved to Davis Square (at last!) recently, and still getting to know more details of the area.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a place for waxing and other such purely aesthetic procedures in the area?

Thanks :)

Perhaps someone already asked this, but...

Where in the Somerville area has anyone gone to have things like waxing done?

This is not the sort of thing you want to randomly chance that the person doing the job has a heavy hand or a poor bedside manner. I don't know if all places that provide this service do Brazilian waxes by default, but recommendations for that would be good.

Looking for decent price as well as comfort in the whole process. Thanks for any suggestions.

i'm sure this has been posted before, but i can't find it.

i'm thinking that i want to get my nails done on a regular basis so i stop biting them. i don't really need them to do a fantastic job, because i'll probably be getting clear polish and keeping them short (i'm a programmer) most of the time anyway. any recommendations in the davis area? i've gotten one vote for julie's nails already....

thanks

Does anyone know of a good place in the area to get a pedicure? Clean and safe (sterilizing tools between uses, etc.) is my first priority, followed by cheap and skilled.
Thanks!

i just moved to davis square. i know many of these have been asked, but i'll ask again. please feel free to offer advice on any or all of these!

1. i live near holland & simpson (near mr. crepe). i commute up 93N and am wondering what is the best way and time to get to the highway? i.e. no traffic (this inludes pedestrians and bikers). w/o traffic it takes me 5 min. to get to the highway going up to broadway, through powderhouse circle, then warner/harvard to 93. in the mornings lately, it has been taking me 15-20!! i have also tried broadway to 16E to 93, and also 15-20 min. is there a better time to leave?

1a. anyone want to carpool to the tewksbury area?

2. best dry cleaners nearby. reasonably priced b/c i have to do a whole pile.

3. good place to get a pedicure.

4. good place to get a massage.

5. cool ways to get exercise (e.g. dance studios, yoga, martial arts... very open to new things)

6. good place to go to clean your car (exterior/interior)? i was recommended srubadub in woburn, but maybe there is a place closer by that is also good?

7. any random fun things i forgot to ask about (restaurants/bars/hangouts, etc).

thanks for any tips! :)
