Hey guys, I'm looking for a seamstress to make the dress I have in my head for me.  Has anyone had good experience with any locals in making a garment start to finish, from a description and/or pictures from you?

Does anybody out there know of a place that will hem your pants for you at a reasonable price? I have a few pairs of nice trousers for work that I can't wear out in this weather because they are too long and they will get destroyed walking in the snow. They are too long in general and just need to be taken up an inch or two, but I have no idea where to take them to get a nice job done.

Who do you trust in this area to do simple clothing alterations?

Thanks!

Any recommendations for a tailor?  I just have some pants that need hemmed so I'm not looking for anything complicated.  I know dry cleaners do this, but they usually just ask how many inches you want the pants shortened.  I'd rather have a tailor who is going to look at the pants on me & shorten appropriately.

Thanks!

Hey kids,
I know there's stuff in the memories and I am looking that over but want some extra info too, so!:

After a month of semi-rough traveling my back/neck/shoulders are a big twisted mess. I need a massage something fierce.

*and*

None of my pants fit! I need a tailor, particularly one decent with designer jeans.

In neither case is cost a huge concern. Being near the red line in camberville would be nice.

I'm about to go attend a few weddings and realize I haven't gotten a new suit or sportsjacket since my teens. I used to go to some ol' time classic Mens stores where you basically went around with a salesperson who worked with you to pick out a few outfits, then got you fitted right there in the store. Is there anything equivalent to that around the Cambridge/Somerville area?

If not, any recommendation of where to get a nice suit or sportsjacket in the area?

I'm looking for a tailor (or someone else who stitches things) that has a sewing machine with a long arm and detachable foot. I'm trying modify a backpack, and a regular sewing machine can't reach.

Hi - I looked through the tailoring tags and found suggestions for repairs of torn leather, but I'm looking for someone who has tailoring skills AND can alter leather. A quick Google is turning up mostly places in Everett, Revere and Lynn for motorcycle accessories.

I have a new fashion (not biker-thickness) leather jacket that fits perfectly on top, but needs to have the side seams taken in at the bottom because my stomach is not of the same diameter as my chest :)

Thanks for suggestions/recommendations.

Hi --

Can anyone recommend someone in the Cambridge/Somerville area to make a dress on short notice? I have the pattern, the fabric, and the miscellaneous bits (thread and such), but am short on time and my sewing machine is being cranky. I need the dress by June 11 for a June 14 event. It's a pretty straightforward pattern (Simplicity 2917, if you want to look it up), but I want it to look good -- it's for a wedding. Will pay, of course.

Any recommendations would be most welcome.

I have a very nice, very expensive blouse that's in need of some alterations, and I'm looking for a good tailor. What tailors in Davis do you recommend? (Quality is the priority here, though someone with decent prices would also be helpful.)

I have a down parka that would have at least another winter's life in it — if it had a working zipper. Can anyone recommend someplace in or near the square that can replace zippers, and would have a reasonable selection? Thanks in advance!

I have a canvas backpack with a zipper that needs to be replaced and a soft leather briefcase with a hole that needs repair. Where should I take them? Thanks!

I'm looking for recommendations for a tailor for a bridesmaid gown. Someone nearer to Davis is better of course, though I do have a car, and if they are open after 5 PM and/or on weekends, even better still.

Thanks!

Do any of you have a recommendation for a tailor nearby? I went to the woman who is doing my wedding dress and she said it would be a 2-3 week wait due to all her wedding alterations being done. I stopped at a place near Teele Sq and they said 3 weeks too! I need this done by August 7 as I am taking it with me long distance for a friends wedding.

Hiya. Just looking for a tailor/seamstress/whomever in Davis square who can replace a busted zipper on a pair of slacks. Had a wardrobe malfunction thanks to an angry dryer, and I'd like to get my favorite pair of slack resurrected, if at all possible. Any recommend places? Experiences? Thanks.

i feel like this has been asked before, but i can't find it.

i need to get a bridesmaid's dress altered near davis. i have gotten simple alterations done by eleni, but wasn't sure how she fared in the formal dress area (she doesn't come off as super fashionable but i could be wrong).

also, if you can approximate how long and cost, that'd be great.

thanks, all- i will probably take it to eleni then. i just wanted to make sure b/c i have no idea how this dress is supposed to fit me so i'm relying on an expert to make it somehow look good.

I have a leather jacket. The cloth lining is totally ripped and falling apart. Does anyone know of a tailor in the Somerville/Cambridge area who could repair redo a leather jacket lining? I called Rizzo's, and they can't do it.

Hey neighbors,

Looking for some suggestions on where to get some clothes altered nearby. I have my first real grown-up interview on the 9th (i'm being flown somewhere ooooh), and I need some pants hemmed and the sleeves on a shirt taken in... not from the cuff though, but so they're skinnier. I live right off of Mass Ave. I'd like a place i can drop it off Monday and pick it up by Thursday (this is all very sudden for me, so I couldn't really plan ahead). I definitely don't mind paying for good work and expediency, but at the same time, I haven't gotten my grown-up job just yet. So if you could let me know of some good places and some price ideas, I would be so so grateful. I tried google; but the reviews haven't been very helpful and there aren't any websites for these places.

edit: also, I work on Newbury Street, so if anyone has reviews on Dependable Cleaners that would help a bunch too.

does anyone know a good place to get a hole fixed in a wool sweater? i just discovered mine has a wee hole in the front. if it unravels any more you'll be able to see the color of my bra. >.< i think it can be sewn up (re-knit?), but i have no idea where to take it, and since i don't knit, i'm afraid to do it myself. help?

i know this has been asked before, but i didn't pay attention back then and now i can't find the posts (i am using tags now!).

i need to get a bridesmaid dress tailored.

i also need to get some pants hemmed.

i may also need to get a tear repaired in a leather jacket.

looking for cheap and good. if you could approximate the costs, that would be great.
thanks!

edit: how do i add more tags like "tailor" and "seamstress"?
