..or are there differences between them? If yes, do you have a recommendation?

Does anyone have any recommendations for cleaners post large scale home renovation? Not just a run of the mill cleaning, but "OMG there is sawdust and plaster dust EVERYWHERE and I will never get this clean on my own" cleaners? If you've used someone and found them to do a good job, let me know. I'll also search Angie's list for suggestions. Thanks!

This is likely a long shot given how small our yards are, but if anyone is doing a landscaping project and needs some rocky type stuff to do some fill work, I have some rubble and *I will deliver*.

Alternately if anyone has any suggestions for disposal, I'm open.  City says needs to be disposed of through private means.   If I'm going to take them to a dump, I'd rather not take the stuff to a place where it is going to be mixed in with trash.

I've been living in my current household for a year now, and the previous tenant still has a large amount of belongings here, which he claims to still want. About two rooms full. It's a bit excessive.

My housemate/landlord and I are resigned to have to deal with it ourselves. We'll do the polite "Here is your final deadline" thing with the old tenant, but I'm not entirely sure what we should do when he doesn't come to get it, which he almost certainly won't. I am looking for ways for it to go away at a minimum of fuss and expense to us.

It is fairly low quality stuff—neither of us wants any of it—but a charity might make use of some of it. Are there organizations that would come and cart it away to a good home? Or should I be looking into junkmen? (Does modern society have junkmen? It sounds so Charles Dickens.) My more-benevolent-in-this-particular-matter landlord was thinking of renting storage, moving it all there, paying for the first month in cash, handing the old tenant the key and declaring the matter resolved, but that seems both time-consuming and expensive to me, not to mention I'm not convinced you can rent storage and pass it over to someone else without their cooperation.

Advice and recommendations would be most helpful.

Couldn't find anything recent about dog walkers so I figured I'd ask. I'm looking for a good, not too painfully expensive mid-day dog walker to come by our house in Porter and take our pooch out for a stroll on weekdays. I'm not a fan of giving someone I don't know access to my house (the doggie daycare options just aren't convenient for us), so solid, trustworthy recommendations are really appreciated. Also if you can let me know what their rates are like that would be helpful too.

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a person/company to rip out and haul away old wall to wall carpeting prior to a hardwood install? Thanks

Greeting davis square,

I'm seeking two services.

Yard Work:
* Trim Hedges
* Remove three to four foot+ ragweed and other weeds.
* Pull down overgrowth.

I've asked several services, but most garden people are crunchy-organic-make-it-pretty goodness ($$$$$). Not "just clean the overgrown crap up please" ($).

Inside the house:
* Previous resident has been a pet-astrophy there.
* The basement smells awful, and was used as a litterbox by the previous resident's cat.
I need a cleaning service that can deal with this sort of thing.
* Carpets need steam cleaning, etc...

(I've seen lots of advice in other posts fixing this yourself, but i'm not currently in a physical state to be able to do this myself - alas. I am seeking to hire someone)

This is time sensitive.

Sod?

Can anyone recommend a good supplier of sod around here? Only want like 500 square feet.

Hi all. We're going to be converting our method of heating from steam heat (radiators) to hot water (base boards) in the next few weeks. Anyone know of anyplace that would be interested in buying the old radiators from us? (Maybe that place down in Union Sq?) I know scrappers will come and take it away free, (and the plumber doing the conversion also will take them), and I doubt they are worth much, but i thought maybe some wise person here might have done similarly before and have some suggestions.

Thanks for any suggestions. :)

ETA: 6/27/12 After emailing pictures of the radiators to Antique Plumbing Fixtures (A1 Plumbing) in Union Square, we were contacted by the owner. He bought our 8 radiators for $125. They picked up, and actually took all the piping and trash bags as well. I'm happy with the result. We got a little bit more money to put towards our renovations, and hopefully the radiators will get cleaned up and go to a good home that can love them better than we could. Oh, and we have one more radiator that still needs to come out (bathroom) and he said we can contact him when that comes out, so we might get another $10-15).

Our lil condo is a little too shabby and not enough chic these days.  The wooden railings on our front steps are all crapped out and need replacing.  In addition, we are considering having the porch decking redone.  I'm looking for recommendations for repair folks/companies - and, any idea what kind of cost range I'm looking at?

Thanks in advance!

I need some help finding a contractor to remodel my bathroom. It is a small space and I am not looking to do anything dramatic - just putting new stuff where the old stuff is. Have gotten a few quotes from places I found on Angie's List but they seem way out there. One says it will take four weeks and that I will be without a toilet (my only toilet) the whole time. The other wants more than $15,000 (not including the tile, tub, fixtures, etc.)
I know people have had success with Sergio's but I have left several messages that have not been returned.

Any others people have gotten good work from at a reasonable price?

Does anyone have a good local or semi-local resource for painting wooden kitchen cabinets? I have all the doors and hardware off and could drop them at a paint shop. I'll probably paint the boxes (on the kitchen walls) myself, but would definitely consider paying someone more skilled.

Hello fellow Davies Squarians! I have been searching around and not been successful, so I thought I would ask here!

Our household has an older fabric upholstered wingback that we're trying to get deep cleaned. Our cats had a little bit of territory war over it, I'm sad to say. We've managed to save it, but want it to get a professional once over before moving it into a more public room.

Does anyone know of someone in the area they can recommend that does furniture deep cleaning? We can take it to the shop or have them come to the house.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello,

I am a long time reader/poster (under a different handle).  I've been doing snow work for years on my rental properties and for others. This year I'm launching myself as an official business, purchasing some new equipment and looking to add some more properties to my route.  If you haven't signed up for a service for this winter yet, please visit my website:  www.somervillesnow.com.   I'm local and I only serve Somerville and very close adjoining neighborhoods so that I can be efficient and timely with my service.

Thank you

Can anyone give a recommendation of someone who will come out and show me around my Burnham steam boiler and what my maintenance routine should be? I know I'm supposed to periodically drain and refill, but am nervous to do it on my own the first time. I'm looking for someone who will walk me through the basics - it could be a plumber or just anyone else who owns one and can show a newbie (I'd pay). I've been here over two years and haven't done anything at all yet. I don't want to contact NStar, they won't do this during heating season and I feel I kinda got ripped off by them when I signed up for their special plan two years ago (it included an annual maintenance but they never tell you can only get it during the off-heating season, so I missed out)

Happy post-Halloween! I'm wondering if, locally, there's such a thing as an odor removal service. Specifically, pet odor. To complicate things, pet odor in wood.

We have a utility closet that became the stealth pee target of our very elderly Siamese. Dear kitty left this mortal coil two years ago, but the smell persists, especially in summer. We've dealt with it by just blocking the door to the closet most times, but we really need the storage space. I tried Nature's Miracle but no miracle was delivered. Wondering now if there's a professional who could help. I guess it doesn't have to be super-local, since they'd be coming to us and we'd pay what they need. Grateful for leads from my neighbors. :-)

surveyor?

Does anyone know of a local surveyor who can document the boundaries of a residential property?

The house next door is being upgraded and condo-ized, and they are going to put up a fence that I fear may go into my property or into the "right of way"beside my property. We're only talking about a couple of feet here, but in Somerville, every foot is precious.

I'd like to procure the information asap, before the fence is built.
Anyone know how much that sort of thing might cost?

Thanks !

Can anyone recommend any duct cleaning companies and roughly how much such a service costs?
[identity profile] notnatalie.livejournal.com
Can anyone recommend exterior window cleaning services for higher-than-ground-level? Several years ago when I rented in Somerville there was a group that would do a great job, and you paid by the window, something like $3-4/window. But they would only come out if there were a couple of houses doing it, to make it worth their while with bringing ladders and such. They were really nice and once they were in front of the windows, they did whatever other little window maintenance things they came across for free, as well. I only need ~10 regular sized windows done, but I could try to find neighbors if that's the norm.

I have some unwanted house guests living in my chimney. Not sure what they are but they have to go.

Any recommendations on local pest control companies who are good with removals like this?
